The Great Blue Wall Initiative – Partnerships for a Regenerative Blue Economy Building a Regenerative Blue Economy Partnership – Anchoring in the Great Blue Wall Initiative and Extending to the Afro-Pacific
Information
Objective: This event aims to establish a collaborative framework for a regenerative blue economy, leveraging the Great Blue Wall Initiative (GBWI) as a model and drawing expertise across the Afro-Pacific.
• The traditional blue economy is unsustainable, driving ocean decline.
• Current blue economy models in the Global South often rely heavily on vulnerable sectors like fisheries.
• The potential of a regenerative blue economy offers solutions for climate change, economic development, and ocean health.
This event aims to lay the foundation for an ambitious and transformative framework for a regenerative blue economy. Leveraging the Great Blue Wall Initiative as a model of connectivity, this effort brings together multi-sectoral experts to share actionable insights and strategies to progress towards a regenerative blue economy framework which meets the challenge of transforming human activity in ocean spaces.
This session is designed to:
1. Explore visions for a future blue economy that is regenerative, equitable and nature positive and draw key insights for the development of a RBE framework.
2. Amplify and integrate the voices, efforts and insights of actors operating in the ‘Tropical Majority’, and Ensure a "blue justice" approach that prioritises equity and transformation for ocean-dependent communities.
3. Set the foundation for an ambitious new partnership to drive a regenerative blue economy paradigm.
Expected Outcome:
• Generate actionable insights and strategies for a regenerative blue economy framework.
• Lay the groundwork for a strong partnership dedicated to achieving a regenerative blue economy from the Great Blue Wall to the Afro-Pacific.
