Information

The moderated panel discussion will highlight challenges encountered by philanthropists along their journey to generate positive impact for the ocean, share and discuss perspectives, success stories , lessons learnt and define a common vision to invest in impactful ocean programs.

For 30% of the ocean to be under restoration, protection or conservation by 2030, this will mean more than tripling the extent of marine protected and conserved areas in the next eight years. This is a task of global magnitude that will require a rapid resource mobilisation effort from all sectors. For philanthropy to continue to address and drive systemic change, commitment is not enough. There is a strong need to deeply understand challenges and opportunities at global and regional level, share experiences among partners already working in the space, and exchange knowledge and experiences. And while we often hear about “best practices”, we rarely spend time in discussing challenges and constrains.

This event aims at being the first of a set of dialogues between players from the public, business, finance, and philanthropy sectors, leading towards the creation of a global platform of leaders/champions (individuals and organisations), convened by IUCN and committed to Identify scalable programs at global and regional level with the potential to generate big impact .
