Information
The event’s main objective is to present the current state of play regarding the existing knowledge on cetaceans in the Mediterranean, focusing on the usefulness of the ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative, how it was developed and implemented on the field, how it provided the first-ever baseline data enabling the continuation of trend assessments on the conservation status of cetacean populations in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
The need to pursue surveillance and monitoring efforts in the region, building up from the expertise and human network created with the ASI is linked to the need to update information on how cetaceans are coping with the cumulative effects of human activities and climate change.
